      That would be so amazing to see and it will be more challenging then Rie's. Because Spanish is a Neo-Latin Language and has common words with English. But Japanese belongs to Altaic Language, totally different language families and Gadiel is not gonna know what hit him lol.

      @ Yes, except the Altaic theory is discredited. As it stands now, Japanese is considered an isolate, with no close relatives, which actually makes it worse :)

    I do not know much Spanish but I'm Filipino and our language in very much influenced by the 333 years of Spanish colonization and I find it amazing that I understand much of what's he's saying without looking at the subtitles. Awesome!

      Peakapollo YT Actually if Rie uses a bit of katakana it’ll be slightly easier since katakana is basically English words split into Japanese phonetics

      @@shroomy666 Katakana one of the written languages for Japanese. Katakana is used to write words with non-Japanese phonetics.The spoken language would still be normal Japanese.

      Phlimbob Yes but you can still make out some English words if it’s repeated a few times - I know this from experience. I used to do Japanese in my Senior years :)

      Phlimbob For example, pizza in Katakana would be pi - za (ピザ) which sounds like an English word if you sound it out loud :) Now, obviously some words will be harder than others but yeah!

      @@antotheja251 It's very hard to translate. It means something like "It's by looking, forget the recipe and all that stuff". I guess is latino culture. We usually don't measure anything, we just pour seasoning and ingredients until it "feels right", haha.

      @@JotaUY The adobo of the Philippines is its own thing, which is braised chicken/pork/anymeatuwant in soy sauce and/or vinegar, bay leaves, garlic, etc. with different styles in different regions and families. It's just called adobo by the Spanish colonizers because it's like the same process of marinating it (adobo) and the name just stuck.

      It's a adobo a dish made off of a mix of things? Cuz if it is, then it definitely makes sense why both latinos and filipinos know and associate the word with an specific mixture; an example of our shared spanish influence.

      @@Jadorelainie adobo is the filipino national dish(well for me it's sinigang) and the dish consists of a meat(mostly pork or chicken or combination of both) with a soy sauce and vinegar sauce.
      basic ingredients are as follows
      Salt and Pepper
      Soy Sauce
      White Vinegar
      Chicken or pork
      Bay leaves
      Garlic
      Onion

    Oh, this was SO much fun to watch! I love absolutely everything and anything to do with language. Add him? Beautiful. And Rie?! Gone. I was all for this from the get-go! Rie did such a great job! Halfway through it was like she actually knew Spanish!
    I would SO watch Rie speaking pure Japanese and teaching him a traditional Japanese dish. IN! So in! Sign me right up!

    After i saw this video (thanks to Gadiel because im also dominican) i started to look more into Rie's videos/recipes and i really appreciate how she celebrates and shares japanese cuisine as a way to stay connected with her culture and heritage but at the same time create "versions" or "mixes" recipes with more western ingredients and techniques, if that's not the definition of a great chef i dont know what is. Also i gotta admit....i'm starting to fall in love with japanese cuisine

This translation/subtitles generating ai is still pretty new, and machine learning don't just advance overnight. If it does... You should fear for your life man.       I really appreciate how he's making an effort to enunciate well. I studied European Spanish, live in Mexico, am fluent enough in Spanish to live my life here in Spanish, yet generally, Dominicans are almost inaudible to me when chatting amongst themselves.

      @@raecrothers1420 well here in Spain we mostly have well accentuated words (there are exceptions) but we kinda do the 4 examole instead of saying: ¿nos vamos para allá o que?. we say: vamos pallá? we some times shorten words but the latino hispanic do it really hardcore haha.

    for anyone wondering what the "sazon" was, sazon goya condiment is a mixture of mainly culantro (long coriander) and annatto as main ingredients as well as turmeric, cumin, garlic powder and it also has some flavor enhancers like monosodium glutamate (if you are trying to replicate it you could skip the glutamate or not)
    as for the adobo well as it states in the video, garlic powder, onion powder, oregano, salt, pepper and sometimes also cumin
    i cannot describe the taste of long coriander but what i can tell is that it is WAY different than normal coriander and should not be used one instead of the other unless you can't get the other one (but they go well together too)

      In your defense, dominican spanish is harder to understand than normal spanish. They tend to speak so fast we spanish speakers have to listen carefully at times lmao.
